Product Review -- Tarte Tarteist Paint Palette Collector's Set

Tarte always puts out a ton of holiday kits, and it's always tempting to want to pick up all of them.

But large holiday palettes are often disappointing -- and how much more makeup do I really need? -- so I limit myself to one.

I've seen some pretty lackluster reviews for the Sephora exclusive kit, so I decided to pick up the Tarte Tarteist Paint Palette Collector's Set, which is an Ulta exclusive.

The packaging is made of sturdy cardboard, which is covered in fabric. Like all of Tarte's holiday kits this year, the fabric features a colorful Pucci-esque design so it's a box that will look nice set out on a vanity.

Beneath the top lid, there are 24 eyeshadows. There is also a large mirror that stays open by itself, so you don't need to prop it against anything. There is a drawer on the side that holds a separate cardboard palette with a blush, bronzer, and highlighter, a large eyeshadow brush, a mini Tarteist Glossy Lip Paint, and a mini Tarteist lash paint.

The shadows included are: Reflection, a shimmery champagne; On Display, a pale matte pink; Muse, a matte pale pinky mauve; Canvas, a matte ivory, Set the Tone,  a matte light peach; Have We Met, a matte pale gray; Take It Easel, a matte caramel; Renaissance Woman, a matte mauve; Abstract, a metallic rose quartz; To the Pointillism, a metallic rose gold; Gilded Gallery, a metallic dark gold; Stencil, a matte cool brown; Roygbiv, a warm russet with gold glitter; Metallic Masterpiece, a metallic plum mauve; Be an Original, a metallic wine; Beret, a warm reddish tan with gold glitter; Sepia, a matte warm mid-tone brown; Kalediscope, a dark plum with gold glitter; Go for Baroque, a matte chocolate brown; Contrast, a matte dark purple; Make the Gradient, a matte dark purple-y brown; Doodle, a matte burnt sienna; Landscape, a metallic olive green; and Gothic, a matte black.

Overall, I feel like this is a really nice holiday set.

On the whole, the shadows are nice -- creamy and well pigmented. As in most larger palettes, there are a few shadows that are a little lackluster, but i'ts only a few.

And there are several standout shades, such as Abstract, Be an Original, Doodle, and Landscape.

The blush is a lovely shade that would work on most skin tones, though it might be a little light for darker skin. The contour shade is really more of a bronzer in my mind because it has such warm undertones. I love the pale pinky highlighter too, but it might look ashy on darker skin.

I also really like the packaging design and the extras of the gloss, mascara, and brush.

For $49, I think you're getting a pretty good value.

However, I feel like this is a better option for people who may not have a very extensive makeup collection because the packaging is pretty bulky and most of us makeup fanatics don't really need a palette with 24 shadows.

So if you have someone in your life who's just getting into makeup or who needs to expand their collection, I think this would make a great holiday gift.

And if you like Tarte shadows, blushes, bronzers, and highlighters, it'll make a nice gift for yourself too.

Have you tried the Tarte Tarteist Paint Palette Collector's Set? Which Tarte holiday sets do you have your eye on?
