Product Review -- Tarte Confidence Creamy Powder Foundation

I've been purchasing Tarte face products (Oh, who am I kidding? All manner of Tarte products actually) like it's going out of style lately.

I mean, in the past several months, I've tried two new foundations and a concealer... and yet, every time another product hits the shelves, I'll all over it.

Case in point: the new Tarte Confidence Creamy Powder Foundation.

I've mentioned before how difficult it can be to find a powder that plays well with my dry skin, so as soon as I saw the word "creamy" in its title, I knew that I had to give this powder a try.

The packaging is definitely a home run -- not only does the powder come in an elegant gold compact with purple detailing, Tarte includes a purple pouch for it that's reminiscent of some of the higher end luxury brands.

There's a decent size mirror inside the compact for touch-up and the pouch holds a double-sided sponge, with a standard latex-y side and a softer-than-soft flocked side.

The powder does have a creamy, almost thin consistency, so it blends easily into the skin. It is a really nice fit for normal to dry skin too, because it smooths over dry patches without emphasizing them.

However, it has a nice natural finish on the skin, so it would probably work for combination and slightly oily skin types as well.

Tarte describes it as a full coverage powder foundation, though, and I don't think that's accurate -- I don't know that this alone would provide enough coverage unless your skin is pretty clear to begin with.

It pairs really well with tinted moisturizers and CC/BB creams, but I've also liked it over fuller coverage foundations because it doesn't get cakey or make you look like you're wearing a mask.

Tarte says it can be used dry and wet -- I've only tried it wet once, but it did seem to improve the coverage. It seemed to make the powder a little drier looking on the skin, though, so keep that in mind.

I purchased the Confidence Foundation in the lightest shade, Fair Neutral, and it's pretty much a perfect match for my very fair skin.

All in all, I think this is a very nice product. I don't think it's a must-have for everyone, but if you have trouble finding a powder or powder foundation that doesn't accentuate dry patches, this is definitely one to try.

It retails for $35 at the Tarte website and Ulta.

Have you tried the Tarte Confidence Creamy Powder Foundation? What's your favorite powder foundation?

  1. This one really made me wonder if it would fit your skin. It looks pretty dark in the pan but the swatch is pretty convincing.

  2. Yeah, it's actually pretty perfect. It always seems to be so much easier to find perfect shade matches in powder foundations than with liquids or creams, which annoys me because my dry skin makes it difficult to use most powder products. Fortunately, this one works nicely. :)

    1. I have dry patches too which is why I never even tried powder foundations until you send me some. :D Now I can say that there are formulations where it really doesn't accentuate dry skin. And likewise I had experiences with liquid foundations that lookes horrible on drier patches. There's really no other way than trying them all and stick with them for a few days to know what they do and how they look on your skin.

    2. That's very true. Everyone's skin is different, so even if someone else who has dry skin likes a product, it might not work for me. Testing them out yourself is really the only way to find out.
