There are so many exciting, intriguing new products at the drugstore these days that I feel like I wind up picking up something every time I stop by CVS, Walgreen's, or Target for toothpaste or deodorant.
It's a problem only fellow makeup junkies will understand.
When it comes to new products, though, the ones that I've probably been most excited to try are CoverGirl's Tru Naked Eyeshadow Palettes.
Because, to be honest, I haven't really enjoyed a CoverGirl eyeshadow since I was a teenager -- and that's years and years ago.
The Tru Naked Palettes come in three shades: Nudes, Goldens, and Roses. They are clearly meant to mimic Urban Decay's Naked Palettes, though they have fewer shadows (8 vs. 12) and don't have exact shade-for-shade dupes in my opinion.
The Nudes Palette is reminiscent of the Naked 2, the Goldens is very similar to the original Naked, and the Roses is similar to Naked 3.
The palette all contain a mix of matte and shimmery shades so you really do have everything you need to do a complete eye look, which is very convenient.
The shades are very nice too -- the Nudes are kind of a collection of taupe-y shades, the Goldens are mostly gold and bronze-y shades, and the Roses are mauve-y and rose shades.

As far as the formula goes, CoverGirl deserves a lot of credit because they've really improved the shadows. In the past, I felt like they were always so chalky and hard to blend.
The shadows in these palettes are actually very soft and have almost a creamy texture. They aren't super pigmented and some, like the mattes, require a little building up to get a more intense look.
The issue that I run into with these shadows is that they almost blend too easily -- which means that it's very easy to overblend and then they all sort of run into each other so you can't distinguish specific shades.
Using a colored base under the shadows, like the MAC Paint Pots or the Maybelline Color Tattoos, really helps -- it helps intensify the color and makes the blending more foolproof.
Of the three, I've found that the Roses performs best (though that might all be in my head because those are my favorite shades).
These are nice palettes, but if you're a makeup junkie, you've probably got something like them already in your collection.
However, if you're new to makeup, if you're been looking for budget-friendly alternatives to the UD Naked Palettes, or if you want some easy shadows that you can apply in a hurry, I would definitely recommend giving them a try.
They retail for approximately $11.99 each anywhere you can buy CoverGirl products. Right now, you can get them BOGO-half off at Ulta.
Have you tried the CoverGirl Tru Naked Eyeshadow Palettes? Which one is your favorite?
I think I´d favour the golden one - although the first four of the roses are awesome too. If you could smash those two together, that would be perfection! I think the Nudes are least exciting because every make-up geek has those kind of shades already.
ReplyDeleteI agree -- the Nudes is probably the most easy to dupe. Though to be honest, none of these are particularly unique colors. Anyone with a large collection probably has similar shades. But they are at a budget-friendly price point, so they are a nice option for people who haven't picked up pricier palettes.
DeleteI'm just obsessed with rose, mauve-y, burgundy-ish shadows at the moment, so The Roses is my fave. :)
