A couple of months back, when all the cosmetics brands were starting to release their spring and summer collections, I told myself that I was going to be a good girl and not pick anything up.
I got quite a few fun new items to play with due to some holiday and birthday gift cards in the first few months of 2015, so it's not like I've been depriving myself -- but how many bright or pastel makeup products (doesn't it seem like all spring/summer collections feature those kinds of shades?) does one person need?
But they're been so many good sales lately (I got the 20% off coupon from Ulta and the VIB sale is going on at Sephora this week) and I had an Ulta gift card and well, I've kind of wound up with a bunch of spring/summer makeup that I swore I wouldn't.
I'm very weak.
One of the items that I had my eye on from the start and talked myself out of a half dozen times was the bareMinerals Pop Collection Ready Eyeshadow 4.0 in The Modern Icon.
Now, I love the Ready Eyeshadow formula to death, but I have a ton of the 4.0's and bareMinerals has a tendency to repeat shades so I figured I didn't really need it.
But the peachy pink shade in it was practically screaming my name, so I decided to use my Ulta gift card on it.
I'm not going to do a full review because I've reviewed the Ready formula a dozen times and I always say the same things -- the shadows are pigmented, smooth, creamy, and really easy to work with -- but I figured I'd do an overview so if you've been wondering about the quad, you could get some answers.
Like all of the bareMinerals limited edition Ready 4.0's, The Modern Icon doesn't come in the standard black packaging -- this time, the compact has a mirrored silver finish with small dots etched into it.

The quad contains Chic,a soft pale pink; Carefree, a muted peachy pink; Sophisticate, a pale lavender; and Exhale, a smoky brown.
Top (l. to r.) Chic & Carefree; Bottom (l. to r.) Sophisticate & Exhale |
From l. to r.: Chic, Carefree, Sophisticate, Exhale |
With the exception of Exhale, which appears to be a matte, the other shades all seem to have a slight sheen but no visible shimmer or glitter, so I'd call them a satin finish.
I love Carefree and Sophisticate as individual shades, but I'll admit that I thought the color selection in the quad was a little odd because they're both fairly muted, soft shades. Exhale is obviously a deeper tone and Chic is a lovely highlight shade, but it seemed like the quad was missing a mid-tone shade.
When I first used the palette, I wasn't exactly sure what to do with it -- I wound up using Chic as a brow bone and inner corner highlight, Carefree on the lid, Sophisticate through the crease, and Exhale in the outer crease, and I really liked it.
Since then, though, I've swapped Carefree and Sophisticate and really liked that too.
So despite my initial feelings, it's a fairly versatile quad.
It does create a very soft, subdued look, though, so keep that in mind if you prefer bold, bright shadows.
I'm definitely happy with the purchase, but I can't say it's a must-have.
You can find the quad at Ulta for $30.
Have you tried the bareMinerals Pop Collection Ready Eyeshadow 4.0 in The Modern Icon? Are you a fan?
Those colours really scream SPRING! :D I like the mix of the matte pastell colours - gives a really fresh feeling. Do they translate into the eye-makeup well? These light colours give me a hard time sometimes when I try to actually apply them.
ReplyDeleteThese are actually really easy to work with -- that's why I love the Ready formula so much. And because these shades are kind of light or soft, they're perfect for people like us with fair skin. ;)
