Review -- IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream

When the BB cream craze started a few years back, I totally jumped all over that bandwagon.

I tried a bunch of them, and in general, I found the offerings from U.S. companies to be pretty disappointing.

They didn't seem like anything but glorified tinted moisturizers.

(The one exception being the Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream, which remains my favorite American BB cream due to its impressive coverage. My all-around favorite BB cream, though, is the Missha Perfect Cover BB Cream, in case you're curious.)

When CC creams became the next big thing, I decided to sit the trend out because I figured it would be just like the BB cream thing.

I made an exception for IT Cosmetics' Your Skin But Better CC Cream with SPF 50 -- mainly because IT Cosmetics always impresses me and I figured it was worth taking a chance on.

I've had this product for nearly a year now and I can safely say it's pretty darn fabulous.

(If you're wondering why it's taken me so long to review it, I honestly thought that I had. I'm getting ready to do a new Favorites post and was going to mention it and when I went to search for the review so I could link to it, imagine my surprise when it didn't exist. What an oversight!)

IT Cosmetics describes the YSBB CC Cream as a full coverage foundation, brightening color, anti-aging serum, pore minimizing primer, dark spot corrector, moisturizing day cream, and UVA/UVB broad spectrum physical SPF 50 -- all in one easy step.

Those are certainly some serious claims, and I'll be honest -- I don't know if the cream really does all of that.

I always use a moisturizer and a primer before applying it because that's my habit, so I can't attest to its ability to eliminate those steps.

And since I don't wear the CC cream everyday, I can't verify its anti-aging serum and dark spot corrector properties either. But as I've mentioned before, I don't really expect my makeup to replace serious skin care products.

However, I do think it's a good thing when a face product contains skin care ingredients because that certainly can't hurt. Like many of IT Cosmetics' products, the CC cream has vitamins A, C, B, & E, peptides, antioxidants, hydrolyzed collagen, hyaluronic acid and other good-for-your-skin ingredients that make me feel good about using it.

But let's face it -- the real test of the product of me is how it makes my skin look and the YSBB CC Cream passes with flying colors.

I wouldn't call it a full coverage foundation, but it definitely has more coverage than a tinted moisturizer or BB cream. I would classify it as a medium coverage actually.  But because it has a the consistency of a moisturizer and is super creamy, it blends into the skin like a dream, which makes it really easy to build the coverage.

I'm not saying that it could hide major discolorations all on its own, but paired with the right concealer, I think it could get the job done.

For me, on a day to day basis, it hides all the redness, scars and possible breakouts that I might have without too much trouble. (I wore it today and did have to dot a little concealer on a particularly angry bump on my chin but everything else was covered nicely.)

What I love most about it, though, is that it blends in so well that it doesn't look like makeup on the skin. It has a satin-y finish that helps it look like real skin and doesn't settle in pores or cling to dry patches.

I would recommend it to anyone with normal to dry skin. If you have combination or slightly oily skin, I think it would work for you, but you would probably want to set it with powder. For seriously oily skin, though, it might look a little too dewy.

It's not one of those one-shade-fits all products either -- it comes in 5 shades, ranging from Fair to Rich. There likely won't be a fit for all skin types, but if you're super pale like me, the Fair shade is worth checking out.

The YSBB CC Cream comes in a tube with a pump dispenser so it's really easy to get out just the right amount. I find that 1 1/2 to 2 pumps is usually enough to do my entire face for medium coverage.

It retails for $38 at IT Cosmetics' website, Ulta, QVC, beauty.com, and Dermstore.

I'm absolutely loving it for warmer weather. I've pretty much just been alternating between it and the bareMinerals Bare Skin Serum Foundation lately and I'm never disappointed in how my skin looks.

It's a real winner.

Have you tried the IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream? Do you like it? Are you a fan of BB or CC Creams in general?

  1. this is my go-to foundation. and when I try others, I come back to this...so why do I continue to try others?! LOL. very natural, good color correction, light to medium coverage depending on how much you use...and I imagine a third coat would make if full coverage, but my skin doesn't need that. feels amazing on the skin...moisturizing, weightless...looks fresh. love it!!!

    1. I agree with all of that! Fresh is a great way to describe how it looks on the skin. What I love about it is that it covers pretty much everything that I need it to but it still doesn't look like heavy, cakey makeup on the skin. It's fantastic. But I keep trying new stuff too. LOL It's hard not to think the grass is greener somewhere, I think, but like you, I keep coming back to this one. And the new bareMinerals serum foundation. Love that one too.

  2. Well thanks to you I was able to try this one and I´m looooving it! It was actually the first skin product I tried, because I didn´t know the brand and the shade looked actually fair (unlike others who claim to be). For me this one is a keeper because of all the things you already mentioned. The coverage is nice and it works for many type (me being normal to oily skin) and I think it also works for the warm and cool skin tones because it´s not too yellow or red.
Adding to that I really like the smell (is it kind of minty or am I imagining things?).

    Thanks again!!! :D

    1. Yay! I'm so happy that you like it!. It's still one of my favorite face products and you're right the color is pretty great. I hadn't noticed a scent before, but after reading your comment, I sniffed it -- it does have kind of a minty smell! I can't believe I never noticed that before. LOL
