I used to hate matte lip products.
It probably goes back to my teenage years in the mid-to-late '90s when matte lipstick was super trendy and so damn dry that wearing it felt like torture.
Since then, I've pretty much stayed away from matte lip products. Between the dry feel and dry look, they just weren't for me.
Still, for some reason when I was strolling through Target recently and came across the e.l.f. Matte Lip Colors in the makeup aisle, something made me stop and reconsider.
The $3 price tag probably had something to do it.
Well, that and Nearly Nude looked like just the kind of nude shade that I was in the market for.
So I decided to give it a try ... and I liked it so much that when I placed an order from the e.l.f. website a few weeks later, I picked up two more shades, Tea Rose and Natural.

While there is definitely nothing moisturizing about the Matte Lip Colors, they aren't uncomfortable on the lips. They apply smoothly and easily, without any skipping or tugging. The color payoff is opaque and rich too -- and because they're in pencil form, you can line and fill in your lips all in one convenient product.
(To make sure that these Matte Lip Colors look and feel their best, though, I always start with a nice moisturizing lip balm because if your lip are dry or flaky, these colors certainly aren't very forgiving.)
And you know, I have to admit -- there is something kind of nice about a matte finish on the lips. While shiny, glossy or glittery finishes will probably always be my favorites, you can't beat a matte lipstick when you want a nice, natural look.
That's why I've been using my e.l.f. Mate Lip Colors on days when I'm going for a minimum makeup look.
It doesn't hurt that all three of the shades that I chose are nice light, natural shades.
Nearly Nude is a peachy nude. Tea Rose is cool mauve-y pink. Natural is a light warm pink.

You can find them at Target or on e.l.f.'s website. As I mentioned, they're only $3 each, which is a bargain, but if you wait for a sale on e.l.f's website, you can get them for as little as $1.50.
Are you a fan of the e.l.f. Matte Lip Colors? Do you like matte lip products in general?
P.S. Just a little reminder that there's still time to enter my giveaway for The Balm Shady Lady Special Edition Palette. You can find all the info here.
I am not too much into matte lipsticks tbh. I mean I LOVE them on others. To me nothing looks more stunning than a matte true red but for me... Even on days when I think my lips are perfect - draw on matte lipstick and they look like a snake shedding it´s skin. They always look horrible. ^^;
ReplyDeleteThat said - tea rose does look like a nice colour though.
Yeah, I'm still not a matte lip girl by any stretch of the imagination. But I really do like these. And they're so cheap -- I love a good bargain. :)
DeleteHaha, that makes two! xD Nothing´s better than getting a good deal on good quality.
