When it comes to lip products, I've always been more of a lipgloss girl.
Lipstick has just always seemed a little too fussy for me. The formula can be drying or require a lipliner or wear off unevenly, and sometimes it's just easier to throw on a nice sheer gloss that adds color and shine and doesn't feel quite so heavy on my lips.
That's why I'm such a big fan of the movement toward more moisturizing or lightweight lipstick formulas. Revlon's Colorburst Lip Butters are my personal favorite of the bunch, but plenty of brands have gotten in on the act.
Enter Maybelline's Color Whisper Lipsticks.
Now, these lipsticks are slightly different than the Revlon Lip Butters because Maybelline doesn't market them as a particularly hydrating or moisturizing lip product. Instead, they push the lightweight angle, claiming that the formula features pure pigments suspended in a weightless gel, with no heavy waxes or oils.
Typically when I'm trying out a new lipstick or gloss formula, I only purchase a single shade -- it doesn't make sense to me to buy a bunch, even if the shades are gorgeous, if I'm only going to wind up hating the way they feel on my lips.
With the Color Whispers, I was persuaded to buy multiple shades on my first foray because they were BOGO-half off at CVS and I had $5 in Extra Bucks that were going to expire.
I went with Mocha Muse, Coral Ambition, and Made-It Mauve.

If you purchase these lipsticks assuming they're going to feel like the Revlon Lip Butters, you'll be sorely disappointed because they aren't nearly as moisturizing.
But that doesn't mean they're drying.
They actually feel really nice on the lips -- lightweight, just as Maybelline promises.
And because they're slightly drier than the Revlon Lip Butters, their staying power seems to be a bit better.
In terms of appearance, the three shades that I have all provide a noticeable shine on the lips. While the colors are sheer, they're plenty pigmented so they do plenty to brighten the face.
As far as the specific shades go, I love every single one that I've tried.
Mocha Muse is one of those great everyday lip colors that you don't even have to think about -- you can wear it with pretty much anything. Made-It Mauve is a deeper rosy shade that works well when you need a little more color on your lips. Coral Ambition is my hands down favorite -- it is a coral shade but it leans more toward the peachy end of the spectrum than the pink. I've been wearing it like crazy now, but I bet it will be fantastic for the spring and summer too.
And there were about six other shades (Maybelline offers 20 shade in total for the line) that I wanted to try too. In fact, I think that there are more colors in the Color Whisper line that appeal to me than in the Revlon Lip Butter range.
I definitely see more of these in my future.
All in all, I definitely recommend checking these lipsticks out with one caveat -- if you're looking for moisturizing formula, definitely go with the Revlon Lip Butters because the Color Whispers don't offer much in that regard.
But they certainly don't feel dry or uncomfortable on the lips -- and with such a wide, pretty color range to choose from, there's probably one or two (or three...) that would work for you.
Have you tried the Maybelline Color Whisper Lipsticks? Any shades in particular catch your eye?
Mocha Muse and Coral Ambition look so pretty!
ReplyDeleteWhen I went to my local drugstore, I saw Pin-up Peach and thought it was so pretty. I might have to go back and buy it and Coral Ambition.
Coral Ambition has become my new favorite lip color -- it's that pretty. And Pin-Up Peach is at the top of my list when I pick up a few more of the Color Whispers. You just can't have enough peachy/coral lip products, can you? ;)
DeleteAll are looking fab but my personal favourite is Made-It Mauve. It is such a lovely mauve
ReplyDeleteI love that one when I want a little more color to brighten my face. As pale as I am, that's pretty important. LOL
DeleteI'm excited to try coral ambition! I absolutely love lust for blush so maybe I will pick c.a up :)
ReplyDeleteSuper moisturizing and great color pay-off!
Aren't they great? And Coral Ambition is just so pretty... it'll be especially nice for summer, I think. Lust for Blush is one of the shades I still want to pick up. Every time I check CVS, though, it's sold out. :P
