Buxom True Hue Blushes |
So the very generous and very wise Easter Bunny brought me a Sephora gift card - and he was even kind enough to bring it a little early so I could hit the store this past Saturday afternoon while I was away for Easter weekend.
Gotta love that Easter Bunny.
Now, as I mentioned before, lately whenever I'm let loose in Sephora, blush is the only thing I can think about. I tried to be open-minded as I roamed the aisles on Saturday, I swear, but somehow it was always the blush that caught my eye. I thought about getting some more Tarte Amazonian Clay Blushes or adding another Nars stunner to my collection. I also had another of the LORAC Baked Satin Matte Blushes in my hand at one point, but ultimately, I decided to go with a couple that I've had my eye on for a couple of months now.
Buxom's True Hue Blushes.
I'm a huge fan of the Buxom line (which is made by Bare Escentuals exclusively for Sephora), but don't see it talked up much in online beauty circles. That's a shame because the line has several real gems. While Buxom doesn't offer loose mineral products like Bare Escentuals, they haven't had any pressed products until recently either. When I saw that they'd introduced blushes (and eye shadows are coming later this summer, I believe), I knew that I'd have to give them a try at some point.
Some point just came sooner than I thought.
Now, I have some other new blushes that I've added to my collection in recent months that I haven't gotten around to reviewing yet (I usually like to have a product for a little while before really deciding how I feel about it) but I love these blushes so much that I just couldn't wait to share.
I picked up two of the True Hue Blushes - Shangri-La-La and Swept Away.

When I was picking out shades, I challenged myself to choose colors that aren't already piling up in my blush drawer - and I was pretty successful with Shangri-La-La, which is a lovely, rich berry shade that doesn't really compare with any of the blushes I already own. I faltered a little with Swept Away, though - it's a gorgeous light peach shade, which is similar to the countless peachy or peachy-pink blushes that I currently have. However, Swept Away was just too beautiful to pass up, and really, it lights up the cheeks in such a spectacular way that I think I was totally justified in buying it.

Now, I have to apologize for the poor lighting in the swatch photos - it's been gray and overcast here in NY for most of the day - because I truly don't think that they do these blushes justice. (If anyone wants me to take more photos on a day with better lighting, just leave a comment below) In particular, Swept Away may look fairly sheer and unimpressive in the swatch. However, when applied to the cheeks, it provides the most beautiful subtle peachy glow that looks so natural. I think it'll be fabulous throughout spring and summer. Shagri-La-La is clearly highly pigmented and very concentrated, so a light hand is necessary when applying it.
The thing that really stands out about both blushes is how smooth and creamy they are. They blend into the skin like a dream, so you don't have to worry about streaks or stripes down your cheeks. The staying power is pretty good too - my skin seems to eat blush, even though it's not particularly oily any more, but these lasted a good 4 to 5 hours on my cheek, which is pretty good in my book.
I definitely recommend checking these out the next time you're in Sephora. (I just checked the Sephora website and they don't seem to be there anymore, which is odd because I spent most of March lusting for them online...) They're $24 each, I believe, which seems to be about the going rate for high end blushes these days - and they're really beautiful blushes, so I'd say they're worth it.
If you can only get one, I'd go with Swept Away - just because I think it's more of an everyday blush.
Have you tried the Buxom True Hue Blushes? What do you think?
Brownie's more excited about her Easter afternoon walk than my new blushes. :P |
